Youth Empowerment and Alcohol Prevention: Showcasing the Buzz of Booze Project in Ottawa

On February 12 2025, a team from the Truly Alive Youth and Family Foundation team had the incredible opportunity to travel to Ottawa to showcase our Youth Empowerment and Alcohol Prevention initiative in Saskatoon.

We were invited by the Glocal Foundation to take part in this important event. Representing our efforts were one dedicated staff member from the Truly Alive Youth and Family Foundation Inc. (TAYFFI) and two passionate volunteer youth leaders who have been instrumental in driving the project forward.

During our time in Ottawa, we proudly presented the “Buzz of Booze” project—an initiative focused on raising awareness and preventing alcohol consumption among youth. Our project was recognized as one of the top five rewarded projects out of 133 winning projects across Canada, a testament to the impact and importance of our work.

More than 30 youth participated in person at the Glocal Team on the Hill for the Civic Engagement rewarding event, where we had the chance to engage with like-minded individuals, share our achievements, and discuss the challenges we aim to address in Saskatoon. Given that Saskatchewan ranks as the second-highest province in Canada for youth alcohol consumption among those aged 15-25, our mission to raise awareness and promote healthier choices has never been more critical.

This trip was not only a platform to showcase our work but also an invaluable opportunity to expand our network, connect with community leaders, policymakers, and other passionate youth advocates. Meeting with Senator Pate, MP Ms. Vandenbeld, Senator Woo, MP Wagantall’s Office, MP Naqvi’s Office, the ESDC Manager, and many other supporters reinforced our commitment to this cause.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Glocal Team for providing this opportunity and to everyone who has supported our journey. Together, we continue striving to empower youth, foster awareness, and create a positive impact in our communities.
