STEM-YXE Showcase Event

Over the weekend, students from the STEM-YXE Academy at the Truly Alive Youth and Family Foundation Inc. (TAYFFI) had the exciting opportunity to attend the “Ideas to Impact: Student Project Showcase” in Regina. The event, organized by the Nanan STEM Academy in collaboration with TAYFFI, brought together passionate youth innovators from across the province — including participants from Saskatoon, Swift Current, Moose Jaw, and within Regina itself.

The showcase provided students with a platform to present their creations, pitch project ideas, simulate prototypes, and connect with other like-minded youth who share a passion for STEM. Participants explored the possibilities of computing and robotics by meeting a robot dog, operating 3D printing systems, programming flyable drones, and trying out some of the interesting creations from fellow students within other academies.

Our students from STEM-YXE academy also had the opportunity to present their creations to a panel of IT experts in the Saskatchewan tech industry, visiting spectators and parents at the Saskatchewan Science Center venue, and cable news journalists from CTV. Each of our students portrayed their own creations, including a music application prototype created with the MIT App Inventor, an Edison robot bulldozer that dodges obstacles and wall surfaces, and a Geometry Dash game using the Scratch programming platform.

One of the participants, Abriella, described her experience as “really fun and fascinating,” while demonstrating a mechanical-arm robot capable of smooth maneuvering.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Nanan STEM Academy for the invitation, the Saskatchewan Science Centre and CTV for their support, and to all the parents whose encouragement made this inspiring experience possible.
