9 am – 5 pm | Mon – Fri (occasional evening or weekend hours may be required)

Total Compensation

$13,125.00 (over 25 weeks of paid training and employment) 

Position Summary

We are seeking a young, vibrant, and success-driven individual to join our dynamic team for the position of Youth Program Support Worker.

To further TAYFFI’s mandate of empowering youth, particularly those from Black and other equity deserving groups, the incumbent will advance TAYFFI’s work of equipping youth with new knowledge  and essential skills for workplace success.

This opportunity is a partnership between Truly Alive Youth and Family Foundation Inc. and  LetsStopAIDS—a national youth-HIV charity focused on empowering youth-led sexual health initiatives  and fostering knowledge exchange and leadership.

As a member of TAYFFI’s frontline team, they will support ongoing initiatives and bring new innovations  to advancing TAYFFI’s work in key aspects of access to employment for vulnerable youth, particularly  those from key populations.

Success in this role means the ability of the incumbent to mobilize communities and inter-sectoral  actions that respond to employment barriers and disproportionate access to healthcare support facing  Black, racialized, and vulnerable youth in Saskatchewan, especially those living with HIV or susceptible to  contracting HIV.

Integral to this role is the incumbent’s familiar knowledge of the social service sector, demonstrated  experience in building a public health framework that addresses health inequity, and ability to facilitate  peer-to-peer vital, stigma-free, career upskilling support for key population youth.

Eligibility

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must:

– be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, refugee/protected person; 

– Youth between the ages 18 – 29 years;

– NOT currently employed or enrolled in an academic institution

Only shortlisted applicants would be invited for interviews. Individuals with “lived or living  experience with HIV strongly encouraged to apply!

Core Tasks and Responsibilities  

a. Assist in identifying specific career priorities of youth, particularly those from Black communities, underserved/equity deserving groups, and suggest strategies to address identified needs. b. Assist in developing tailored empowerment initiatives, including career/business ideation, civic engagement, community leadership, etc, for key population youth

c. Facilitate skill-building training (including workshops and webinars), quality of life activities (including physical wellness events), and career action planning (including a mentorship program) to improve youth holistic health and readiness to participate in the socioeconomic fabric of society.

d. Assist key population youth to identify community resources and assistance programs, sort out  options, and facilitate access as applicable: including resume review/redesign, employment-related para-counselling, tailored volunteering opportunity, etc  

e. Collaborate with community organizations/groups in Saskatoon and the area, and represent TAYFFI  at Youth Leadership Network tables to ensure the youth perspective is given priority attention as  applicable  

f. Build relationships with families (including seniors) to foster and strengthen social, cultural,  emotional, and mental well-being in youth. 

g. Implement and organize the delivery of special workshops and learning events to grow community  awareness and knowledge base as it relates to employment equity, benefits to workplace diversity,  intentionally inclusive HR Best Practices, etc  

h. Develop relevant promotions and new media marketing resources to grow community awareness on  TAYFFI’s program, particularly in key aspects of youth empowerment and career upskilling.  i. Assist in identifying industry-specific mentors and career coaches to increase the chances of  vulnerable youth securing and maintaining gainful employment. 

j. Perform other tasks and responsibilities in support of TAYFFI’s business as directed by the Operations  Manager or other designated supervisor

✔ Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and willingness to support and engage young people in a stigma free environment.  

✔ Extensive knowledge on social determinants of health, particularly barriers to employment facing key  population youth and innovative ideas on tailored intervention responses  

✔ Professional communication, liaising, and networking; constructive interpersonal relationships with  all internal and external contacts; fluency in English and French is an asset 

✔ Works well with confidential information, applying need-to-know rules effectively  ✔ Demonstrated ability to communicate with clarity by listening to others, speaking effectively, and  preparing written communication in a clear and concise format  

✔ Ability to comply with all relevant organizational policies and procedures; commitment to the  organization’s objectives, goals, and operational strategy to achieve priority outcomes ✔ Skilled at identifying unique methods of communication that build shared meaning through actions  and building engagement  

✔ Completion of post-secondary education or a college diploma in humanities, social services, or youth  care work   

✔ Positive attitude and willingness to be flexible to adapt to changing needs and “roll up shirtsleeves”  to get the work done; maintains grace under pressure.   

✔ Access to a Personal vehicle with a class 5 Driver’s License
