Position Summary

To provide youth/young adults with a quality employment opportunity (QEO) that bridges and supports their transition positively into a successful adulthood, Truly Alive Youth and Family Foundation Inc, in partnership with the Students Commission of Canada, is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our dynamic team for the position of Youth Program Coordinator.

Success in this role means the ability of the incumbent to strengthen community action by facilitating projects that responds to community needs and addresses unique, inter-linked barriers facing youth from Black, Indigenous, and ethnic minority communities in Saskatoon and Area.

Integral to this role is the incumbent’s strong knowledge of the social service sector; they must also demonstrate stellar experience in identifying and delivering impact-driven initiatives to overcome multilevel barriers faced by youth from Black and other racialized/ethnic minority households.

Maintaining collaborative partnership with key stakeholders from intersectionality organizations, youth-serving agencies, and educational institutions towards ensuring no one is left behind in receiving support is an essential skill for this role!

Eligibility

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, refugee/protected person
  • Youth between the ages 20 to 30 years inclusive
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations
  • French language proficiency is strong asset

Core Responsibilities

  1. Identify specific needs and priorities of youth from equity-deserving/multi-dimensional barriers communities and recommend strategies/initiatives to address/alleviate identified needs.
  2. Conceptualize and implement tailored youth empowerment including career/business ideation, civic engagement, community leadership, etc.
  3. Facilitate learning events (including workshops and webinars), quality of life activities (including physical wellness events), and guided support (including mentorship program) to improve youth holistic health and readiness to participation in the socioeconomic fabric of the society.
  4. Work in collaboration with community organizations/groups in Saskatoon and area, and represent TAYFFI at Youth Leadership Network tables to ensure youth perspective is given priority attention.
  5. Assist immigrant/newcomer youth to identify community resources and assistance programs, sort out options, and facilitate access to support services as applicable.
  6. Develop needs assessment framework and tailored intervention/support toolkit beneficial to youth and their families from underserved communities in Saskatoon and area.
  7. Build relationships with families (including seniors) to foster and strengthen social, cultural, emotional, and mental well-being in youth.
  8. Work collaboratively with TAYFFI’s staff particularly in thematic aspects of Academic Upskilling Program, Language Enhancement Program, TAYFFI Scholarship Program, and Career Internship.
  9. Recruit and coordinate youth program volunteers/working group meetings to ensure community-informed and outcome-based program delivery.

Wraparound Responsibilities

  • Identify and collaborate with other youth-serving organizations and educational institutions to maximize community connections opportunities for youth from ethnic/racialized communities.
  • Facilitate inter-heritage learning to foster connections and race relations among youth
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities in support of TAYFFI’s business as directed

  • Professional communicating, liaising, and networking; constructive interpersonal relationship with all internal and external contacts.
  • Fluency in English; French and other International Languages are an added asset.

  • Extensive knowledge on social, economic, and health issues relating to immigrant, refugee, and other vulnerable/under-served communities and develop tailored intervention responses.
  • Ability to organize schedules to meet varied needs of clients, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Skilled at identifying unique methods of communication that build shared meaning through actions and engagement.
  • Consistently open to change and adapting readily to shifts in tasks and circumstances.
  • Personal vehicle with class 5 Driver’s License.
