Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our dynamic team for the position of Career Skills Development Coordinator.

The Career Skills Development Coordinator will be responsible for supporting unemployed and/or underemployed Black individuals, particularly those who new to Canadian workforce identify career goals, gain employability skills, and secure jobs.

Integral to the duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate for this position is the ability to provide comprehensive services and information resources that enable program participants to take active responsibility for their work plan, career decision and job search; equipping program participants for making career plans by facilitating awareness of their work related strengths, interests, and values and understanding the world of work; preparing participants for finding suitable employment by enhancing their job search skills and capacity to express the relevance of strengths to employers; and fostering relationships with the employer community to provide program participants with opportunities to develop professional skills, integrate academic learning from work, and find jobs.

Integral to the duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate for this position is the ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary partners, industry experts, employer communities, and professional regulatory bodies to promote employment equity and intentional workplace equity across industries. The incumbent must be an astute public speaker with an up-to-date knowledge on employment barriers faced by Black individuals, possessing proven ability on developing sustainable strategies to mitigate emerging trends and service gaps towards ensuring no one is left behind in achieving positive socioeconomic outcomes and quality of life.

Employment Classification:

Term Contract, Immediately May 2026 – March 2027 (with possibility of extension)

Work Hours/Schedule:

150hrs/month; Monday – Friday; 9:00am – 5:00pm (flexible arrangements as per clients’ needs and employer’s business)

Required Skills and Attributes:

i. Confidence, logical thinking, and charisma; extremely motivated and inspired by TAYFFI’s mission.

ii. Possess adequate knowledge of interlinked barriers relating to employment and retention of Black individuals in Saskatchewan and demonstrated ability on how to address identified issues.

iii. Ability to quickly synthesize complex ideas, align them with business priorities, and devise actionable strategies to accomplish goals.

iv. Positive attitude and willingness to be flexible to adapt to changing needs and “roll up shirtsleeves” to get the work done; maintains grace under pressure.

v. Ability to organize schedules to meet varied needs of clients, community partners, and stakeholders.

vi. Demonstrated ability to communicate with clarity by listening to others, speaking effectively, and preparing written communication in a clear and concise format.

Key Responsibilities:

i. Skill Development & Training: Design, coordinate, and deliver workshops on job search strategies, resume writing, interview techniques, and soft skills.

ii. Career Counseling: Provide 1:1 guidance to help clients set career goals, identify strengths, and overcome employment barriers.

iii. Employer Relations: Build relationships with local employers and partners to create job placements, internships, or apprenticeship opportunities in rural Saskatchewan communities.

iv. Job Placement Support: Provide labor market information, assist with job matching, and facilitate career fairs, especially for job seekers new to the Canadian workforce.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

a. Facilitate culturally responsive career skills development including psychometric assessment testing and intake interview sessions to better understand clients’ employment history, educational background, and career goals.

b. Assist Black individuals facing multi-dimensional barriers in critical aspects of employability and job-readiness upskills, including resume writing, interview techniques, and soft skills.

c. Facilitate modular employment training cohorts for Black job seekers delivered by career coaches and qualified industry experts on thematic aspects of the labor market in Saskatchewan, including managing expectations, labour law/employment standards, employee safety and protection, etc.

d. Assist clients to identify community resources and assistance programs, sort out options, and facilitate access as applicable, including resume review/redesign, employment-related para-counselling, and tailored volunteering opportunities.

e. Guide participants to navigate bottlenecks of credential recognition and connect them to professional pathway programs relevant to their re-certification and career trajectory.

f. Build partnerships with employers, recruiters, and community organizations to increase career opportunities, including job placements and industry-specific volunteer opportunities.

g. Organize career-related workshops, training sessions, and seminars to grow community awareness as it relates to employment equity and the benefits of workplace diversity.

h. Conduct initial, mid-point, and exit project impact assessments using quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods, including surveys, employer reports, and labour market trend analysis.

i. Maintain job databases and provide resources for career exploration for the purposes of evaluation, resource development, and reporting.

j. Work effectively and collaboratively with other TAYFFI staff and project team (including project partner organizations) to achieve required outcomes.

Preferred Personal Attributes and Essential Skills

a. Completion of a university program in Human Resources, Political Studies, or another Social Science degree.

b. Professional communication, liaising, and networking skills; ability to build constructive interpersonal relationships with all internal and external contacts; fluency in English (French is an asset).

c. Ability to work with confidential information, applying need-to-know rules effectively.

d. Ability to comply with all relevant organizational policies and procedures; commitment to organizational objectives, goals, and operational strategy to achieve priority outcomes.

e. Effective time management to complete assigned tasks and duties; openness to change and ability to adapt readily to shifts in tasks and circumstances.

f. Personal vehicle with a Class 5 Driver’s License; Criminal Record Check.
