Access to Justice

Canada’s Black Justice Strategy – Saskatchewan Report

Black people face discrimination in every aspect of their daily lives, often in ways that remain invisible to many Canadians with close to 50% of Black people in Canada experience discrimination in everyday life.

The disproportionate access to resources and inter-linked inequalities perpetuates a cycle of social injustices, making it difficult for Black individuals to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Premised upon the conviction that very person has the right to live a life free from discrimination, prejudice, and hate – a life where they are valued, respected, and given equal opportunities to succeed we at Truly Alive Youth and Family Foundation Inc. (TAYFFI) are dedicated to empowering Black individuals and families, particularly those from immigrant, refugee, and long-term citizens by creating barrier-free access to civic engagement and community leadership, with a strong emphasis on combating anti-Black racism and promoting equal treatment under Canadian law.

Our commitment to amplifying Black voices was acknowledged by the Government of Canada, Department of Justice by engaging our expertise, alongside other 11 community-base, Black-led and Black-serving organizations to lead grassroots consultations with the primary goal of informing the development of Canada’s Black Justice Strategy – standing together to address, and combat discrimination that continue to harm Black communities, and take collective action to ensure that every individual can live with dignity, safety, and opportunity, regardless of their race or background.

To begin addressing these issues within the criminal justice system, the Government of Canada has released the full report of Saskatchewan Black Communities Consultation Engagement led by Truly Alive Youth and Family Foundation Inc and the Implementation Plan for Canada’s Black Justice Strategy
