Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our dynamic team for the position of Employment Readiness Coordinator.
The Employment Readiness Coordinator will be responsible for supporting unemployed and/or under employed Black individuals, particularly those who new to Canadian workforce through coaching, workshops, and individualized employment action planning.
Specifically, the incumbent will assist Black individuals facing multi-dimensional barriers to employment in critical aspect of employability and job-readiness upskills, including resume writing, interview techniques, and soft skills, while facilitating job placements, tracking participant progress, and connecting clients with employers.
Integral to the duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate for this position is the ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary partners, industry experts, employer communities, and professional regulatory bodies to promote employment equity and intentional workplace equity across industries. The incumbent must be an astute public speaker with an up-to-date knowledge on employment barriers faced by Black individuals, possessing proven ability on developing sustainable strategies to mitigate emerging trends and service gaps towards ensuring no one is left behind in achieving positive socioeconomic outcomes and quality of life.
Employment Classification:
Term Contract, Immediately May 2026 – March 2027 (with possibility of extension)
Work Hours/Schedule:
150hrs/month; Monday – Friday; 9:00am – 5:00pm (flexible arrangements as per clients’ needs and employer’s business)
Required Skills and Attributes:
i. Confidence, logical thinking, and charisma, with strong motivation and alignment with TAYFFI’s mission
ii. Possess adequate knowledge of interlinked barriers affecting employment and retention of Black individuals in Saskatchewan, with demonstrated ability to address these challenges
iii. Ability to quickly synthesize complex ideas, align them with business priorities, and develop actionable strategies to achieve goals
iv. Positive attitude with flexibility to adapt to changing needs, willingness to take initiative, and ability to maintain composure under pressure
v. Ability to organize schedules effectively to meet the diverse needs of clients, community partners, and stakeholders
vi. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly by actively listening, speaking effectively, and preparing concise and well-structured written communication
Key Responsibilities:
i. Workshop Facilitation: Conduct training sessions on resume writing, cover letters, mock interviews, and job search strategies
ii. Case Management: Provide one-on-one coaching to identify barriers to employment and develop action plans for participants
iii. Employer Engagement: Build relationships with local businesses to secure externships or direct job placements for participants
iv. Skill Development: Teach soft skills, financial literacy, and workplace behavior
v. Data Management: Track participant outcomes, attendance, and progress using databases and related systems
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
i. Undertake community-based research to gain grassroots-informed insights into underemployment challenges faced by Black individuals in Saskatchewan, and lead the development of mitigation strategies aligned with project objectives
ii. Assist participants in navigating credential recognition bottlenecks and connect them to professional pathway programs relevant to their re-certification and career progression
iii. Develop and implement assessment tools to identify clients’ interests, aptitudes, abilities, and skills, and provide tailored action plans to support their needs
iv. Support clients in identifying community resources and assistance programs, exploring options, and facilitating access, including resume review, employment-related counselling, and tailored volunteering opportunities
v. Facilitate community-of-practice workshops and learning events to enhance awareness of employment equity, workplace diversity, and inclusive HR best practices
vi. Organize and facilitate employment-related information sessions led by subject matter experts on key labour market topics in Saskatchewan, including expectations, labour laws, employment standards, and workplace safety
vii. Provide culturally relevant career counselling and wraparound support to improve participants’ mental and emotional readiness for employment
viii. Collect, analyze, and report on project activities to support evaluation, resource development, and reporting requirements
ix. Work collaboratively with TAYFFI staff and project partners to achieve program goals and desired outcomes
Preferred Personal Attributes and Essential Skills
i. Completion of a university program in Social Work, Political Studies, or another relevant Social Science discipline
ii. Strong professional communication, liaison, and networking skills, with the ability to build constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders; fluency in English, with French as an asset
iii. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion, applying need-to-know principles effectively
iv. Ability to comply with organizational policies and procedures, with a strong commitment to organizational goals, objectives, and operational strategies
v. Effective time management skills to complete assigned tasks, with adaptability to changing priorities and circumstances
vi. Possession of a personal vehicle with a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to provide a Criminal Record Check
